GQ contacts page

Most of the shot types seen on these magazine covers are close ups or mid shots, this is because GQ magazine want to emphasise who is the star cover through close up and the use of mid shot enables us to see there clothing which creates a from of identity for them in which the audience portray them to be—usually in suits which relates to culturally sophisticated audience type which are upper-middle class predominately. (celebrity endorsement)

The typography is very similar throughout each magazine which may be due to the fact that it wants its audience to familiarize with who they are as a company. Also it is significant as it relates to the celebrities on the front cover who are seen as ’clean, fine and crisp’ so in that sense the typography is very important in terms of portrayal of the figure at the front.

The type of clothing worn by each individual relates to there characteristics and who they are. For example, Connor McGregor is seen wearing a brown leather jacket with a white t-shirt—this relates back to his character as he is known to be ’cool, calm and collective’ and this image perfectly fits with that description. GQ has intentionally done this in order to showcase to the audience that they will present a interview which cannot be seen anywhere else and the idea of having a costume which relates to his character means that it will be honest and truthful statements , giving them that USP which will increase audience buying the magazine.

GQ magazine web page analysis

Throughout the front page there are subheadings of different genres/categories which have around four links to news stories/articles related to that category.

-           Most of them contain a famous figure which is great for the magazine as it will bring in more audience and also having an iconic figure allows younger audience specially to get inspired and motivated to reach the level that the icon is at

-          Because of its formal layout, it links well to the intended target audience which is culturally sophisticated so it would be a good idea for me to use colors which are generic and vibrant. (Black, white, red, blue)

-          The task bar is very simplistic and easy to use, it allows his audience a wide range of choices and also navigate them to the right place – The extended bar from each column

-          The proportion of picture to text is quite even which can be related to many audience type with education/without education – links in with newspapers between The Guardian and The Daily Mail, with one being suited for those who are upper middle class due to high volume writing and the other suited for middle/lower class due to the high volume of pictures

-          There is also web links added to selected stores and food chains which might be a partnership they have. This is necessary as those selected stores and food chains will most likely add GQ website onto their site so a lot more attraction will come from other brands

-          The site has USP in which it showcases exclusive interviews with people such as Prince Charles and Harry Kane, and this will gain the web page a bigger viewership as these people haven’t given interviews anywhere else. Also things may be asked and said which is new to the public so it can be seen as a publicity stunt to gain advantage over the other top magazines
